In 1983, following his craniofacial fellowship at NYU, the University of Southern California (USC) recruited Dr. Reinisch to come to Los Angeles from the east coast to start the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Thanks largely to Dr. Reinisch’s reputation and commitment to excellence, it is now one of the busiest departments at children’s hospitals in the world. Dr. Reinisch has also served as the Head of the Division of Plastic Surgery at USC. He currently serves as the Director of Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery for Cedars-Sinai Medical Group in Los Angeles.
Dr. Reinisch is the founder of the MEDPOR® ear reconstruction. Although there has been a well-established surgical microtia treatment for over 55 years, Dr. John Reinisch saw a need to create a more advanced surgical technique that could provide improved cosmetic results, and allow children to receive treatment with less discomfort and at an earlier age. In 1991, he introduced a newer technique, known as MEDPOR® ear reconstruction. Since then, he performed over 1500 Medpor or Omnipore ear Reconstructions.
